Dear John Abdo,
Thank you for the introduction of the AB doer Twist as been looking around for ages to find a nice comfortable exercise machine for my health issues of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and lower back problem. As this looks good for me and going to try it out. Other machine like standing as can't stand too long. Need to get rid of the unwanted weight for years... Hope this Twist to help me out.

Hi John:
I want to know if you have any advice for someone with thyroid problems. Mine crashed last year and I'm on medication for it, but, am really struggling to lose the weight. I am 49 years old, and have 20 lbs to lose. I use your machine at least 4 times a week, I have two horses and ride them each approx 1- 1/2 hours a day 3-4 times a week, clean their stalls and try to get in a 30-40 walk on days I don't ride. A month ago I decided to try the adkins diet- finished 2 weeks induction and have been two weeks on OWL. I see a bit of a difference, and a steady 4 lbs off on the scale. I don't eat sweets, drink alcohol, starches or heavy carbs. I feel I'm doing everything I'm supposed to, but not seeing the results I'd like or would expect to see. I'm really frustrated and feel like my efforts aren't worth it. Any suggestions or help would be really appreciated. Really feel like giving up!! 

John Abdo Hi Annie: Please make sure you check with your doctor before proceeding with any of these suggestions. First, as you know, you have a hormonal imbalance; i.e., thyroid, which regulates your metabolism. Thyroid hormone might 'not' be the only hormone out of balance so, again, ask your doctor to check that. Also, resistance training, even 10-20 minutes, with weights or rubberized tubing; like the Power Resistance kit for the AB-Doer, will isolate muscle more directly which is intended to boost metabolism even higher. Also, do not drink anything but water, drink as much as you can, all day long, to keep your system flushed of toxins and properly hydrated. Finally, meditate of the FACT that, through the power of your mind, you can, and will, make positive healthy changes. I have witnessed thousands of miraculous transformations of the years. I have weights and rubber tubing and will add resistance training to my workouts. I usually have quite a good attitude and am pretty easy going. Have a great story for you...short of it is that I was struck by a moving car while I was walking xmas eve of 01. Ended up in a wheel chair, neck surgery, disc removed, lots of pain killers. For a long time I couldn't move well and was in a wheel chair. Kept my ab doer as my computer chair and started to get back in it as it was the only movement I could do for months. Hi John:

I have got the AB-doer Twist, and just started to use it. I follow the dvd, and even if I feel clumsy and stupid, your guiding and your voice keep me all the time with a smile, and encourage me to go on. You talk as if I am doing great. I know I will be better after some practicing. Next sunday my age will change to 57, but that is just a number. I work as an accountant and there is not much exercise behind the desk. You know life is not always easy to control. So for too many years I have had to work almost double to catch up. But all has an end, and last year was that for me, so now I can go on working normal days. I have my dog Emma who is 1.5 years old. And we say there is no bad weather, only bad clothing, so we walk in sun, rain, snow, storm. Our walks are between 2.5 and 4 of your miles, depending where we walk. I do not like running and she likes to sniff a bit during the walk, so we both do what we like most. I live not far from my daughter and her family, and I gave her an AB-doer for birthday/christmas gift. We will try to exercise together as often as possible. I hope when summer comes I will be where I want to be in shape, and then go on working to stay there.

SPOT REDUCTION is possible. I know this is a controversial topic but this is my personal/professional opinion. I've seen it and experienced it; many times. Those who don't believe it are stuck in a mind-warp because they're not considering the power of the mind's influence on the circulation of blood and nerve energy, mitochondrial recruitment and development, hormone production, homeostasis and metabolism. Of course, you'll lose fat from other areas of the body when focusing on just one area (a bonus), but the 'spot' you're focusing on will be the most prominent 'spot' you gain results in; provided you 'do' it correctly. If a person can 'spot increase' then why can't they 'spot reduce'? Think of all possibilities your body and mind are capable of. Release yourself from the chains of limitations that are being promoted by 'certified fitness trainers', physiologists and even doctors. The human body, and its psyche, have limitless capabilities. John says " you can optimally increase reps by two each week until you can sustain doing 2 reps for each abs exercise."

This is definitely important for the Ab Doer beginner. Though the machine is made it easy and fun for anybody to use, do not ever over do it. Start 2 reps for each exercise and increase more as you go by. I started my exercise only 10 minutes at a time and only once a week. Personally  I think the important part is that we need to consistently work out.

He says it is important to start with the abdominal exercise circuit at the beginner’s phase. You cannot right away jump into doing strenuous workouts because you may end up having unwanted injuries. Set your upper limit and maximize your potential to achieve it. Over time, attempt to increase the number of repetitions you do. For instance, you can optimally increase reps by two each week until you can sustain doing 2 reps for each abs exercise. Keep in mind to alternate the kinds of abs workout routines you perform so as to add the variety needed in strengthening abdominal walls faster and more effectively.
